Although there are various medium of entertainment, cinema is considered as a universal form of entertainment.
 In this age of internet, cinema seems to have broken the boundaries of country and time. 

That's why some Hollywood-Bollywood movies are hitting at the box office, some are  flop — these are the daily discussions now. 

Meanwhile when the discussion of world cinema is booming online, viewers are also getting the opportunity to participate in movie ratings on movie sites.

One of such sites is the Internet Movie Database (IMDB). IMDB also has a top list based on viewer ratings. From that list, the list of top 10 best hollywood movies all time are highlighted for the readers.

1. ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ :

The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American epic drama film. Directed by Frank Darabont, the film stars Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Ganton, William Sedler, Clancy Brown, Gil Bellos, and James Whitmore. 
Based on a million votes (9.3 out of 10), it ranks # 1 among IMDB's "Top 250" films and is considered the best film of all time.

Adapted from Stephen King's novel Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, the film tells the story of a banker named Andy Dufresne, who was punished for murdering his wife and her boyfriend in shawshank state prison. While in prison, he befriended with Alice Boyd "Red" .

Starting with a flop at the box office (can only raise a budget), the film garnered excellent reviews from various nominees, awards and critics for its acting, story, and realistic behavior. 

It was a huge success in cable television, VHS, DVD and Blu-ray versions. The film was included in the 10th Anniversary Edition of the American Film Institute's 100 Year 100 Film. 

2. The Godfather :

The Godfather is an American drama film directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Copla and Pujo wrote the screenplay based on Mario Pujo's best-selling novel of the same name. The film is produced by Albert S. Rudy. It stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as the protagonists of a mafia family in New York.

Paramount Pictures bought the rights to the novel for $ 60,000 before it became popular. The executives of the company could not find a suitable director to produce the film, so some of their first selected directors turned down their offers.

 There was a disagreement between them and Coppola over who would play Vito and Michael. Filming was done in different places and the work of the film was completed ahead of schedule. Initially, Nino Rota composed the melody of the film with the additional melody of Carmine Coppola.

The film was the highest grossing film of 1982 and the highest grossing film of all time. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture, Brando won the Academy Award for Best Actor, and Pujo and Coppola won the Academy Award for Best Aided Screenplay. The film also received Academy Award nominations in seven other categories.

The Godfather is considered one of the best films in the world, especially in the gangster genre. The image was nominated for preservation in the U.S. Library of Congress National Film Registry, which is said to be "culturally, historically and aesthetically important."

 The film ranked second on the American Film Institute's list of the best American films of all time.
 The location of this picture is right after the Citizen Kane picture. Two more episodes followed - The Godfather Part 2 (1984) and The Godfather Part 3.

3.  The Godfather Part II :

The Godfather Part II is a 1964 American crime drama film directed and produced by Francis Ford Copla. The film is partly based on Mario Pujo's best-selling novel of the same name, and Pujo co-wrote the screenplay. This is a sequel to the 1972 film The Godfather. It stars Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in the lead roles.

The film received mixed reviews from critics. Many admire the filming but find some confusion in the nonlinear narrative style of the film.
The film received Academy Award nominations in 11 categories and the Academy Award for Best Film as the first follow-up episode. 

The film's other six Academy Awards include the Kopler got Academy Award for Best Direction, the De Niro got Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and the Pujo and Coppola got Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Al Pacino won the Bafta Award for Best Actor and the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Like the previous film in The Godfather Part 2, it is considered one of the best gangster films in the world.
The film was nominated for preservation in the National Library of Congress of the United States Library of Congress in 1993, citing "cultural, historical, and aesthetically significant."
The year was in this position.  Many consider this film to be even better than its predecessor and original film. 

4. The Dark Knight :

The Dark Knight is a 2006 American superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan. The film, based on DC Comics superhero Batman, is a sequel to the 2005 film Batman Begins. British actor Christian Bell played the role of Batman. Other cast members included Michael Kane, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Jillenhall and Morgan Freeman.

The film is a joint production of the United States and the United Kingdom. It is dedicated to the memory of Heath Ledger, who died six months before its release.

The film's story revolves around a 12-member jury's analysis of whether a criminal really committed the murder of his father.

With the release of the movie Pulp Fiction, there was a huge response among the movie connoisseurs overnight.

10. Fight club :

Fight Club is a 1999 American film based on Chuck Palenik's 1996 novel of the same name. The film is directed by David Fincher, and stars Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter in the lead roles. In the central character of the film, Norton plays an unnamed common man. Disillusioned with his official duties, he teamed up with soap maker Tyler Darden (Brad Pitt) to form a fight club called the "Fight Club".
