Abu Dhabi T10: Nicholas Pooran Smashes 89 Off 26 Balls As Northern Warriors Beat Bangla Tigers By 30 Runs

The highlight of the Northern Warriors innings came after losing the toss and playing the captaincy of Nicholas Pooran. He came to the crease after the opener Wasim Muhammad (12 off five balls) was dismissed. He took some time in the beginning and hit the first six off the fourth ball. But then in the fourth over of the innings, three sixes and a four off the balls of Kais Ahmed got 23 runs and made his intentions clear. After this, he hit three consecutive sixes on the balls of Mohammad Irfan. He completed the half-century in 17 balls with a six off Mujib ur Rehman.

Looted 32 runs in six balls and reached close to century

George Garten did the eighth over of the Northern team. In this, Puran rained fours and sixes and scored 32 runs. He hit a four on the first and last ball, while the remaining four were sixes off the ball. Three of the four sixes went over the square leg boundary while one went over the midwicket. With this, Puran's score increased from 56 runs in 18 balls to 88 runs in 24 balls. He was just two sixes away from a century. But in the ninth over, he was caught by Andre Fletcher in an attempt to hit a big shot off Karim Janat. In this way, he was dismissed by scoring 89 runs in 26 balls. Lendl Simmons was out a ball before him. He scored 41 runs in 22 balls with the help of three fours and three sixes.

Broke the record for most sixes

Simmons and Puran were dismissed for two consecutive balls and only 20 runs were scored in the last two overs of the Northern innings. Otherwise the score would have been higher. Puran hit 12 sixes in his innings and broke his own record of putting the maximum sixers in this format. He had earlier hit 10 sixes in the year 2018. At the same time, Chris Lynn is the record for the most runs in this format. He scored an unbeaten 91 runs in 2019. Nicholas Pooran missed breaking this record.
